Louise Annand, a painter by inclination and a school teacher through necessity, moved from the classroom to Glasgow’s Museums Education Service, ending up as Chief Offcier. |
She was awarded an MBE in 1980 and in 1996 Glasgow University bestowed an Honorary Doctorate. |
As a young artist in the late 1930s and early’ 40s and a founder member of the New Art Club and the New Scottish Group, Annand is in a unique position to write this account of Fergusson’s period in Glasgow and the exciting cultural life of the time. Many of the illustrations are taken from her large collection of contemporary arts programmes and other documents. The text provides a valuable, stimulating and immensely readable record of the artist’s Glasgow years. |
