Included in the sale a pair of Regency Bergere chairs, owned by the highly successful Lord High Chancellor in Ramsay Macdonald's first Labour Government, Lord Haldane, are to be auctioned by Scottish auctioneers Thomson Roddick & Medcalf at their fine art and antiques auction at Oxenfoord Castle, Midlothian on Thursday 6th December.
Lord Haldane, who was from the distinguished Scottish family of Haldane of Gleneagles, was also the Secretary of State for War (1905-1912)
The Regency Bergere chairs, of fine elegant proportions, date from 1810 - 1820, and are being sold from a Scottish country house by a descendant of Lord Haldane.  The pair is estimated to make £1`2,000 - £15,000.  The chairs have even appeared in a 1908 edition of Women at Home magazine that features a photograph of Lord Haldane's sister at home at No 28 Queen Anne's Gate, Westminster with the Bergere chairs.
Other features of the Christmas sale are:
A varied and unique collection of over 100 perfume bottles from the 1920's - 1990's.  Many of the bottles still contain perfume and have never been displayed.
Mauchline Ware - the traditional souvenirs collected by holidaymakers in the 19th century.  Over 200 pieces in the collection, sod as lots estimated to sell for £5000 - £7000 in total.
Shell-shaped silver dishes in Rococo style. Made in London in 1796, they are estimated to make £5000 - £7000.
