Bonhams
has announced that it is moving its Scottish headquarters from 65
George St to 21-22 Queen Street Edinburgh, to provide an improved service
to clients.
Miranda Grant, Bonhams Managing Director in Scotland comments: "I am
really delighted that Bonhams has secured these very exciting new premises
from which to continue growing our business in Scotland. The buildings,
right in the centre of our capital city are tailor-made for providing an
efficient and comfortable experience for our clients. It will take some
months to complete work on the building required by Bonhams, but when
completed I believe that we will have the most impressive salerooms in
Scotland. Bonhams have always been committed to Edinburgh but this massive
new investment in the city centre certainly shows our ongoing commitment
to Scotland."
After 176 years at 65 George Street (first as Dowells, then Phillips and
now Bonhams), the company needed smarter and better laid out premises to
house staff as well as an increasing number of works of art and antiques.
The move will not only allow for improved service for existing clients but
will also help to attract many more new clients because of improved
accessibility. Bonhams new home at 21-22 Queen Street was formerly used by
the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the NHS Education for Scotland.
The Edinburgh Evening News said recently: "The move has been welcomed by
business leaders, who said they were happy the famous auction house would
be staying in the centre of the Capital. Graham Birse, deputy chief
executive of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, said: "It will be a
significant reflection of the prestigious reputation of Edinburgh's city
centre. Flagship locations such as George Street, Princes Street and Queen
Street are proving popular among big, world-renowned brands and Bonhams is
certainly one of those quality companies."
Robert Bleasdale, UK Group Managing Director of Bonhams says: "George
Street has served us well but its configuration and location presented
growing problems. So we are excited about the move because it will allow
us to be much more client focussed. The new premises will accommodate our
client service needs – including some free parking."
Bonhams will maintain the full schedule of auctions in Scotland ranging
from affordable art and antiques sales to specialist fine sales and the
annual highpoint of the Bonhams calendar, The Scottish Sale in August.
Unlike any of the other auction firms in Scotland, Bonhams is the only
international fine art auction house to have a regional network across the
UK with nine salerooms outside London (where the company maintains two
salerooms in Mayfair and Knightsbridge). This regional strength is allied
to international salerooms in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles,
Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Paris, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. The company
maintains a presence in 25 countries on all five continents and offers 57
separate specialist divisions. |
