This year's Scottish Sale
once again features a wide range of pictures by the most prestigious names
in Scottish art spanning three hundred years.
A fine group of paintings by Scottish Colourists offered in the sale
includes a superb still life, White Peonies by Francis Campbell Boileau
Cadell R.S.A., R.S.W. (1883-1937). Painted in 1909, White Peonies is an
impressive and characteristic example of the artist's work of this period.
Christie's has been staging auctions dedicated to Scottish Art as well as
depictions of Scotland for over twenty years. The 2001 Scottish Sale not
only achieved the highest total for an auction held in Scotland but also
saw Samuel John Peploe's The Black Bottle set a new world auction record
for the artist and become the most expensive painting ever sold in
Scotland (£520,750).
