A picturesque Conservation Village steeped in history The ruins in the Old Churchyard date back to the 15th Century with evidence of Norman building of the 11th Century. The village was raised to the ground 'under silence of night' in January 1716 by barbaric Clansmen. Highlandmans' Park and The Dog's Head Well date back to the 18th Century when Highlanders and Lowlanders met to barter the price to be paid for cattle, Drovers using the well to refresh themselves. Nearby Drummond Castle and Gardens are an outstanding Visitor Attraction. The Gardens recently featured in the film 'Rob Roy' and are open to the public daily from Easter until the end of October. A sundial dating from 1746 can be found opposite the Village Tearoom - local history states men of the village who worked on the Drummond Castle Estate assembled here at 6.00am before walking to the Castle for the day's work. In recent years the Village has been transformed over the summer months, flowers adorn the streets and houses - Prizewinners in the 'Beautiful Scotland In Bloom' and 'Take A Pride In Perthshire' Competitions. |
